SAP

The SAP client (e.g. needed for Q-Flow) comes pre-installed on the Windows and Linux computers managed by us. For unmanaged (and thus unsupported) computers and notebooks, you have to download and install the SAP client yourself from the University's Software Site (under "Gratissoftware").

To configure the client please see the operating system specific instructions below.

Note: SAP can only be used from the University's network or via VPN!

Windows

To start SAP go to Start -> All programs -> SAP Front End -> SAP Logon.

Linux

You can either open the SAP client from a terminal by entering SAP or via the application menu.

If the main window doesn't show the university's SAP entries (e.g PU1), please follow these steps:

  1. Please start the client once and exit it again. This will initialize your configuration files.

  2. Now open a terminal and execute the following command:
    wget services.mat.univie.ac.at/sap/SAPGUILandscape.xml -O $HOME/.SAPGUI/SAPGUILandscape.xml

(Please copy the command exactly as written!)

  3. Start the client again. It should now show the needed SAP entries.

Now in the main window you will see the connection PU1. When you double-click PU1, please select Productive: Fully trusted from the appearing trust level dialog.

After that, you can continue to login to the service with your SAP account. These settings will be remembered, so you only have to do this the very first time you start the client.

How to Open Files

To open files (invoices, receipts, ...) from inside the SAP GUI, please follow the steps detailed in the "Appendix" of the installation guide, beginning from page 34.

Note: First, you have to set Firefox as the SAP clients's default browser in the application's settings as shown on page 30 of the above document! The path is /usr/bin/firefox.

macOS

We offer the information below for your convenience. They have been tested successfully on a macOS computer. However, please note that macOS computers are not supported by us.

First step: Be sure to download the Java 8 JDK (if you don't have it installed already).

Then download the SAP JAVA GUI OSX from the "Gratissoftware" section of the University's Software Site. You just need the file PlatinGUI730MacOSX_9.JAR.

Now open a terminal, change to the directory where you downloaded the file to and enter: java -jar PlatinGUI730MacOSX_9.JAR. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the client. After installation, you can start the SAP client via the Finder -> Applications.

For client configuration at the first start, the steps are the same as above for the Linux client. Please make sure to adjust the default SAP browser to Firefox (the path under Mac OS is /Applications/Firefox.app)!
